5 THINGS YOU’RE DOING WRONG WHEN IT COMES TO ACNE

Treating any kind of acne can be tricky and time-consuming. It doesn’t help that there are so many tips and tricks out there that it feels overwhelming to pick which would be right for you. But it turns out there could be some simple thing you’re doing that could be why you’re still getting pimples all the time.

Keep your hands off your face

Bacteria can transfer from your hand to your face, so avoid touching your face when you can. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, it may irritate the already inflamed facial skin, and lead to infection and scarring.

Stay out of the sun
The sun’s ultraviolet rays can increase inflammation, redness and can cause dark discoloration. Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight due to some acne medications. Limit your time in the sun and wear protective clothing along with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Look for a ‘noncomedogenic’ sunscreen to steer clear of new pimples.

Tweak your diet

Dairy products and food high in processed sugar may trigger acne. So, avoid such food along with greasy and junk food and replace them instead with more fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Drying out a pimple too much

You might have heard that one way to kill acne is to dry out the oil on your face. That’s why so many online “hacks” recommend putting toothpaste or even rubbing alcohol on a zit. However, drying out your skin too much is going to backfire. Too much dryness will cause irritation and could make acne worse. Instead, stick with specific acne treatments like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, rather than something DIY.

Washing your face too frequently

Cleansing is an essential step in fighting and preventing acne, but there’s definitely such a thing as too much of a good thing. Esthetician Lindsey Blondlin told The List that over-cleansing will dry out your skin, which makes it produce more oil to make up for that dryness. If your skin is naturally very dry, wash it only at night. Use any face wash products twice a day at most, no matter what.

To avoid breakouts, it’s important to know what type of skin you possess and how it reacts to the environment and the products you are using. It’s important to be aware of what you’re dealing with to come up with the best results.
